Thursday 16th July
Thu 16 Jul 2020Dear Parents and CarersThe end is in sight!!. Staff have been in school today, putting some of the rooms as back to normal as they can be. In most of the classrooms, tables are facing forwards and children will not work in groups as they normally would. I have to say though, I think we quite like it and we are more than willing to give it a go!As you know Willow, Lilac and Oak children will return to their current teacher. Hawthorn and Years 3 to 6 will go to their new teachers. All these classes are expected in on Wednesday 2nd September. Our new Reception children will be phased in, in the week beginning 7th September. The children will be expected to wear school uniform.Until the week beginning 14th September, if your child wants a school lunch then this will be a packed lunch. From this date, if our plans are moving along smoothly, then the usual menu will be on offer. Our Cook Joe, is really looking forward to getting back to providing a full menu. For those first eight days, I am keeping things simple and not trying to run before we can walk (as it were).I have also attached an Inclusion and SEND letter form the Local Authority. It has details of support over summer.I will be in touch with more details tomorrow.Have a lovely evening.Mrs. Perry -

We have had a lovely day. Year 4 enjoyed their picnic on the field. There was lots of bubbles and more than a little rain. I hope the Y4 parents enjoyed my very fetching poncho?
We said goodbye to our Year 6 children this afternoon. :((
This was a Leavers Service with a difference but I have to say it worked! I loved listening to the staff talking about the children with such knowledge and affection. I said one thing to every child when I gave them their cross. 'We are here if you need us'. I meant it.
We give them a cross, yes, because we are a church school but also to help the children remember the love we have shared with them while they have been with us. I talk about love with the children in assembly regularly. It is the most important value for me.
If we have love then all other values: respect; forgiveness; trust; tolerance etc all fall into place.
Best wishes and love go to all our Year 6's. I expect to see them in their 'too big uniforms' in September.
I speak to Mr. Bell fairly regularly and I believe the High Schools have a thorough transition package to welcome the children in Year 7.
I have attached a letter from Karen Dolton (Bury Local Authority) to all parents of children returning in September.
Have a lovely evening everyone!!!

Tuesday 14th July
Tue 14 Jul 2020Dear Parents and Carers
I am STILL waiting for further information regarding the Bury Offer on summer schemes. I have spoken to our Coach Leon. Your children know him well. Leon was planning our school summer scheme but in light of the work on the drains he will be based at Bury Grammar School this summer.
The details of the BGS summer scheme is below. Just follow the link for information.
I have also been working with Mrs. Hardy to get an idea when Smarties can re-open in the Autumn Term. There is a lot to consider. All the children will be in their class bubbles and these bubbles must apply to Smarties as well. (You see the immediate issues of staffing, numbers etc).
Priority needs to be given to the safe return of our pupils. Smarties will re-open but this will not be until the middle of September at the earliest. I know that parents need to get back to work but the safe return of our children is paramount, whether it is in school or in Smarties.
As you will know, the children will work in their class bubbles and school needs to ensure that bubbles do not mix, where possible. St. Margaret's was built for 190 pupils. We currently have 243 on roll. I think you can appreciate the challenge of bringing back such a large number.
We will try our utmost to make the return as safe as possible for everyone. Your children have been missed and there is a strong desire to make things work in September from every member of staff and Governor.
I hope to see as many of you as possible before the end of term.
Have a lovely evening

Monday 13th July
Mon 13 Jul 2020Hi everyone :)
I have been in school all day today and every time I went outside it poured down with rain. Picture this also …. Mrs. Cleary was welcoming her children into school this morning. She had no coat! Mrs. Barnes let her (insisted she) borrow her very fetching orange poncho. She looked like she was on her holidays at Disney Land and started singing and dancing a Disney song.!!
I am still trying to find out about summer scheme provision for you. The school will need to close due to drainage work, so we cannot put on our planned scheme.
I am also working with Smarties staff to discuss how/if we can re-open Smarties at some point in September. The Government's safety guidance makes re-opening Smarties very very difficult. I know that working parents need before and after school care. However, whatever we do, needs to be within the Government's safety guidelines. I am doing my best to see what can be done.
Please take care and have a lovely evening.
Lots of love

Sunday 12th July
Sun 12 Jul 2020Good evening all :))
I hope you have had a good weekend?
I have been doing the garden and pottering around, thinking of what needs doing before the end of term. Reports will be out this week. I know a report seems very strange after weeks of lockdown, but I was very keen that school celebrated the part of the year that was completed.
I will be in touch tomorrow with more end of term info.
The Local Authority assured me that information would be circulated, from them, to schools about the availability of summer schemes. I have not received this information yet. As soon as I get the details I will forward them to you.
Enjoy the rest of your evening.

Friday 10th July
Fri 10 Jul 2020To all Parents and Carers,
I hope you have had a lovely Friday. We have in school!! It was lovely to see the Year 5s today. Information is now starting to go out to the infant parents about arrangements for September and now that our current pupils are settled back in school, I can begin to welcome our new Reception parents.
The last few weeks have been really difficult in terms of arranging all the different groups returning to school and making sure that safety comes first. It has been lovely to see their smiling faces. Thank you again for all your support.
Have a lovely weekend.

Friday 10th July - Infant Class Update
Fri 10 Jul 2020Good afternoon Parents and Carers,
I hope you are all having a lovely Friday afternoon. I promised more details about September and here it is. The process for allocating children in the infants to their next class would normally take place in the summer term. This has not been possible due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so this has to happen in September.
In the infants we have mixed age classes:
Willow – straight Reception
Lilac – Reception and Year 1.
Oak – Year 1 and Year 2.
Hawthorn – straight Year 2.
Whichever class your child is in, they are taught the curriculum for their year group. So for example, if your child is in Lilac Class and is in Year 1, they are taught the Year 1 curriculum etc.
There appears to be some misunderstanding about children remaining in the same year group as they are now. This will not happen. However, under the circumstances, in these unprecedented times, teachers will need to meet the children again after five months and make decisions on which teacher they would be best placed with.
Children who are now in Willow, Lilac and Oak Classes will go back to these classes for the first three days of the new term. There are two reasons for this:
1. To have a 'good goodbye’ with their teachers;
2. So that teachers can, at this point, discuss which teacher your child is having next year.
I know that many of you are anxious about what the new year will bring. We want the very best for your child and several factors will be considered in allocating a teacher: social and emotional well-being, phonics, reading writing and number skills.
I hope this gives some clarification.
Have a lovely evening.

Thursday 9thJuly 2nd update
Thu 09 Jul 2020Dear Parents and CarersI hope you have all had a good day?I know that staff have been arranging and leading Zoom meetings to support your children as they move to their new classes. They seem to be going very well. We are learning about what the children are looking forward to and what they hope to achieve, which is lovely. I know that you will appreciate how hard this has been in the circumstances and I thank you again for your amazing support.School has been working as hard as it can to re-open the school for as many children as possible, safely and well. In accordance with Government guidelines we have welcomed back Years 6, 1, 5 and Reception although this has been a phased return to ensure safety. The intention in September is to re-open school for all pupils. Again, this is in line with the Government's directives. I emailed parents and explained school's plans yesterday. Entry in to and out of school will be staggered as will lunchtimes and play times. Once the children are in their class groups they will not need to socially distance from each other. Staff ,however, will still need to keep to the 2m distancing rule,More information to follow. In September, according to Government guidelines, school will welcome all the children back. Week 1 will be an important three day transition for the infants in particular. In Week 2, school will start a transition week for our new Reception children, many of whom are siblings of children already in school. We can't wait to see them!!Miss Glover and Miss Gaff have given great thought to our new Reception children. Packs of information about the school and what to expect, have been delivered to our new children. Unfortunately our teddy bears picnics have had to be postponed this week because of the rain and I know!! that teddies do not like to be soggy. More information to follow for our new families very soon.I am so proud of our staff, children and parents. The support given since March has been a credit to us all. Thank you so much!Have a lovely evening.Mrs. Perry. :) -
Thursday 9th July
Thu 09 Jul 2020Good Afternoon Parents and Carers,
Hopefully the weather is now turning and we might begin to enjoy some summer weather. In today’s update, we would like to inform you that Mrs Owen will sadly be leaving us at the end of term. She has worked at the school for 14 years and is now starting a new business venture and I am sure like us you will want to wish her all the success for the future. She has been a dedicated member of the team and has cared and nurtured every child who has been fortunate to be in her class. She will be missed by colleagues, parents and children and we are sure that her business, Zenic Wellbeing will be a huge success.
Take care,
Mrs P :)

Wednesday 8th July
Wed 08 Jul 2020Good afternoon Parents and Carers
I hope you are all well. I have been working on the arrangements for September today. There will be more information to follow, but generally speaking those going into the juniors will go to their new classes on Wednesday 2nd September. Their current teachers and teaching assistants are thinking about the best way to support their transition, especially for children in year groups that have not been able to be in school at all. Because of current arrangements it has been a huge task to get as many children in to school. We have tried to keep in touch as often as possible.
Children who are now in Willow, Lilac and Oak Classes will go back to these classes for the first three days of the new term. There are two reasons for this:
1. To have a 'good goodbye with their teachers;
2. So that teachers can assess (informally) which of our mixed aged classes the children will be placed in.
This year things are likely to be different. Some children have completed a lot of work while at home. Others have not. This is absolutely fine! However, it may mean that some children will stay in their current class so that they can 'catch up and so that school can 'plug the gaps' of what they need to move to their next steps in education. Decisions will be made on what will be best for the child and in consultation with you.
I know that many of you are anxious about what the new year will bring. We will work with you to allay your concerns and to welcome all the children back as safely and well as possible.
Have a lovely evening.
Mrs. Perry
PS. I haven't seen the frogs for a few days.... but I have just found a big spider in the garage as I was cleaning it out. It's my own fault because I have let the garage get in a bit of a mess!!
