English Subject Statement
At St Margaret's, we believe that a high-quality English curriculum is the key to unlocking learning across the entire curriculum. Developing pupils who learn to master the cornerstones of literacy- speaking, listening, reading and writing- empowers pupils to engage critically with their learning, express themselves creatively and create a lifelong love of learning. Through our oracy curriculum, early reading and phonics programme, guided reading, transcription lessons, grammar teaching and writing lessons, children engage with high quality texts, authors, poets and genres. Children are encouraged to consider audience and purpose in their reading and writing, use language expressively and accurately and gain an understanding of how to effectively communicate their thinking and ideas.
