    Dear Parents,

We wish to inform you that we will have to close Smarties as from today until after the Easter Holidays.

We have tried to stay open as long as possible,  but due to staffing problems we can no longer at the moment keep your children safe in their bubbles.

We look forward to seeing you all again soon and please do not hesitate to contact us via our email if you have any concerns and we will do our best to help.

    Happy Easter.
    Stay Safe.

    Thu 25 Mar 2021

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you to all the parents and carers who have supported the school by keeping to the Government Guidelines. Again, I am sending a plea to you all. Please do not send your child in to school if they have any of the following:

    • a new cough
    • a temperature
    • loss of taste or smell

There are new symptoms recognised by the school's health and safety advisor. These are:

    • a sore throat
    • a poorly tummy
    • fatigue
    • a headache

In addition, if your child is showing these symptoms or is feeling generally unwell, please take them for a PCR test. A negative test from a lateral flow test is not reliable and a lateral flow test should not be used on anyone displaying symptoms. Please do not send your child in to school after relying on a negative LFT.

If you are aware that your child has been in close contact with a child who has tested positive, they must not attend school.

    Date: 25 March 2021

FOR PARENTS OF CLOSE CONTACTS OF A CONFIRM CASE OF COVID 19 at St Margaret’s CE Primary School.

    Instruction to Self-Isolate until 02 April 2021

    Dear Parent,

We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within Year 5 at St Margaret’s CE Primary School.

We have followed the national guidance and have identified that your child, has been in close contact with the affected person. In line with the national guidance, your child must now stay at home and self-isolate up to and including Friday 02 April, which is 10 days since they were last in contact with the confirmed case, and can return to school on Monday 19 April.

In calculating the self-isolation end date, we have used the official national test and trace guidance under which the date of last contact with the positive case is considered to be day 0 of a 10 day self-isolation period and where day 11 is the day when self-isolation is lifted and your child can return to school.

We are aware that this may differ from how you could interpret the online information that is available, but we are advised to use this method by Public Health England as it reflects a recent change to the national calculation methodology.

We are asking you to do this to reduce the further spread of COVID-19 to others in the community.

If your child is well at the end of the period of self-isolation, then they can return to usual activities. A negative test does not mean that your child can return to school earlier than the period of self-isolation.

Other members of your household can continue normal activities provided your child does not develop symptoms within the self-isolation period.

Please see the link to the PHE Staying at Home Guidance for contacts who do not live with the confirmed case of Covid-19:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-for-contacts-of-people-with-possible-or-confirmed-coronavirus-covid-19-infection-who-do-not-live-with-the-person/guidance-for-contacts-of-people-with-possible-or-confirmed-coronavirus-covid-19-infection-who-do-not-live-with-the-person

What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID 19

If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19, you should arrange for testing for your child via https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-getting-tested or by calling 119.

Whilst waiting for the test result, all other members of the household should stay at home and self-isolate.

If the test result is positive, all other household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 10 days from the day when the first person in the house became ill. Household members should not go to work, school or public areas and exercise should be taken within the home.

If the test result is positive, your child will be required to self-isolate for a period of 10 days from the day that their symptoms started.

If your child’s test result is negative, anyone in your household who is isolating solely because of your child’s symptoms can stop isolating.

Household members staying at home for 10 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community.

If you are able to, move any vulnerable individuals (such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions) out of your home, to stay with friends or family for the duration of the home isolation period.

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I know you will have heard about the positive case in our Year 6 class. There has been another positive case in our Year 5 class, confirmed by a lateral flow test. In accordance with government guidelines, we will wait for the results of the PCR test and confirm the outcome as soon as possible. Year 5 children should not attend school until we inform you that the PCR test is negative.

Please please do not send your child in to school if they are unwell. The usual symptoms still stand: a new cough; temperature and loss of taste and / or smell.

There are other symptoms added to the list that are now recognised: headache; tummy ache / upset stomach; fatigue and sore throat. At St. Margaret's children have also complained of feeling generally unwell and have tested positive.

As I said in a previous email, we are 'not out of the woods yet' and this is certainly proving to be the case.

    Please keep safe and well.

    Dear Parents/Carers

All Smarties staff are looking forward to welcoming you all back on Monday 15th March.

Social distancing rules still apply when dropping your child off in the morning and collecting your child in the afternoon. Your child will be signed in and out by a member of staff, and your child will be brought out to you in the afternoon.

Please be patient and keep to social distancing, and use the main path to enter the school and the driveway to exit. Mask should still be worn.

Your children will remain in class bubbles around the school to keep everybody safe, so activities will be a bit different for a while, but we will do our best to make sure they still enjoy themselves.

Smarties fees are still the same £3.50 for a morning session and £7.00 for an afternoon session. Fees must be paid on a Monday in advance, payment can be made by cash, online, childcare vouchers, or cheque made payable to Bury mbc . If you make any payments through vouchers or the new Government voucher scheme can you please email smarties20@st-margarets.bury.sch.uk  of dates and amounts paid, as we have no way of tracing these payments with a lot of companies not fully open.

We look forward to seeing you all, and if you have any concerns please do not  hesitate to contact us .

  • Welcome Back!

    Mon 08 Mar 2021

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back everyone! It was so lovely to see you all this morning! I have visited all the classes and the children are settled and smiling.

Our arrangements worked well this morning, but please, please drop off / collect your child at the time given to you. Some parents started arriving at 8.25am today. There is no need for this and it caused unnecessary congestion resulting in some children and parents crossing over one another. This can be easily avoided if parents come at the allocated time.

At the end of the school day, Parrenthorn children will be leaving as well, so it is even more important that parents come at the right time.

The systems we had in place this morning will be laid out from 3pm. Parents will not be allowed to come on to the school premises before 3.10pm, which is the first pick up time.

We appreciate your continued support; especially this morning when we welcomed back 250 children.

    See you all later.

    Mrs. Perry.

  • Lateral Flow Tests

    Fri 05 Mar 2021

    Dear Parents, Carers

Lateral flow testing is now available for households of school children, including primary aged children, in preparation for the full re-opening of schools next week.  Please follow the link below for more information about the rational behind the mass testing and where to collect your test kits from, if you wish to participate

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/rapid-lateral-flow-testing-for-households-and-bubbles-of-school-pupils-and-staff?utm_source=1%20March%202021%20C19&utm_medium=Daily%20Email%20C19&utm_campaign=DfE%20C19

We encourage you to take part in this to help keep as many children as possible in school.  Currently staff test twice a week. Testing on a Monday means that positive results will not impact on the whole class bubble, enabling all children in that bubble to remain in school.

We have also been advised that the kits are available at Longfield Carpark Prestwich. These Lateral Flow Tests ae for adults in your family support bubble, and Not for the children.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Kind regards

    Mrs Perry

    Fri 05 Mar 2021

    Dear Parents and Carers

Staff have been working hard to prepare for the re-opening of school for all children on Monday. We can't wait to see everyone!

Please can all parents remember that even though the children are returning to school, the country is still in national lockdown until March 29th. This means that all the restrictions that we have been living with since January 4th still apply. The children are in bubbles once in school but before and after school, parents need to socially distance when dropping children off and picking them up.

Our risk assessment is in place to keep our school community safe. Now that our children are returning we want to keep them here and we do not want any bubble to have to close, so it is very important we all stick to the Government guidelines.

Please wear a mask when you are on the school premises unless you are exempt.

School is pleased to announce that Smarties will re-open on Monday 15th March. If you would like your child to attend Smarties please email smarties20@st-margarets.bury.sch.uk with your requirements. If your child attended smarties pre-lockdown we still need you to confirm the sessions you require. If we don’t hear from you we will take it your child no longer needs a place.

The arrangements for entry and exit to and from school are on the school website. Please ensure that you know what time to drop your child off and what time to pick them up. Keeping to these times is very important as we do not want congestion on the school premises.

    Keep safe and well.

    See you on Monday

                                                                                Mrs Perry
