Dear Year 4 Children and Parents,

I am so sorry that I am not in school this week - I will hopefully be back next week, all being well.  I have had to isolate due to a positive case in my family.  I am missing you all and it's very strange being at home whilst you are all in school.  I just wanted to reassure you, parents, that I am in daily contact with Miss Jones and the children are broadly following what they would have been doing if I was in, particularly in English and Maths - so it should not be affecting them too much.

I hope that you are all staying safe and I hope to see you all again very soon.  As usual, please don't hesitate to email me if you have any worries, questions or concerns.

With best wishes,

Mrs Hainsworth

Monday 8th March

Welcome back Year 4!!

It has been so lovely to have all the children back this morning - they have been a delight, trying so hard with their work and enjoying the school environment once again.

Please try to make sure they all have a PE kit for tomorrow as they will be doing a PE session with Coach Leon tomorrow afternoon.

The times for Year 4 are 9.05 until 3.30 - please try to stick as closely to these times as possible, unless you have made alternative arrangements with us, due to them having a sibling in another class.

Spellings will be sent home today for a test on Friday.  Please also try to find and send in your child's reading book and record with them this week, and g back to the routine of hearing them as often as possible and signing the record for their particular reading day.

Thanks again for your amazing support with home learning.  We know it hasn't been easy but your efforts have really helped.  As ever, please email us if you have any questions or concerns.

Tuesday 23rd February

Good morning Year 4 and families,

We hope that you all had a lovely half-term break and managed to have  a rest from school work, and time to enjoy some things you like doing.

There will be two zooms a day now - 9:30 and 1pm so it would be good to see you if you are able to attend both, but if not, please try to make the morning one. Codes are on Google Classroom.

We are very excited to get all of you back into school on Monday 8th March, and hope that you are too. Please try your best with the online work until then.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions / concerns.

Take care,

Year 4 staff

Monday 1st February

Good morning to you all,

Really hope that you managed to have an enjoyable weekend doing some fun things, or at least getting outside a bit.

The work for this week is all on Google Classroom again.  Please don't hesitate to contact me if you are having any problems.

Best wishes, Mrs Hainsworth and Miss Jones

Monday 25th January

Hello Year 4,

The work for this week is all on Google Classroom again and we continue to be very proud of the way that the children have responded to this situation - again!!

Stay safe

Monday 18th January

 Good morning Year 4,

We hope that you all managed to have a lovely weekend and that you are keeping in touch with some of your friends.

Everyone in the class is now signed up to Google Classroom, which is fantastic.  Therefore I will only set work on there now, rather than on the website too.  Please continue to complete and submit your daily work via Google Classroom and remember to click 'handed in'.  I am keeping a record of who attends zoom and the work submitted.  A huge well done to everyone who is doing that.  Please continue to message me if you have any questions or concerns about anything.  Keep working hard and just doing your best!

Well done.  Stay safe

Mrs Hainsworth and Miss Jones x

Wednesday 13th January

Hello everyone!

Gosh I can't believe that it's already Wednesday!!

It is lovely to see so many of you on the zoom call each morning and Miss Jones and I are very proud of how you have adapted so far and of the work you are sending in to us.  Today's work is on here too - 60 second read and the 2nd writing frame from Power of Reading ( English folder) and then Maths on multiplying 3 numbers and a Science worksheet on solids, liquids and gases.  Any questions, please ask.

Tuesday 12th January

Hello Y4,

The work for today is also on the website for now.  Maths is multiplying 3 numbers, English is a Tell Me grid based on the first few pages of our new book and there is also a 60 second read activity.

It was lovely to see so many of you on zoom yesterday and I hope to see you all agai shortly.  The work you are sending in is really pleasing so far!  Big well done.

Monday 11th January

Good morning,

I hope to see / speak to all of you at 9.30 on Zoom this morning to say hello, register you and go over today's work.  The work is also on the website.

Don't panic if there are any problems today as there may be a few teething problems at first - but we will get there!

Mrs Hainsworth

Friday 8th January

Hello Year 4,

Finally it's Friday - the end of another strange week with lots of changes for us all to get used to.  I hope that you are able to have a lovely weekend and maybe even enjoy some snowy weather later today.

Thanks so much to those who have been completing their work - a really amazing effort from so many of you.  We will begin the zoom calls on Monday morning at 9.30 and Miss Jones and I are really looking forward to seeing you, even if it is just on a screen.  We will all get back together again at some point in our lovely classroom. I have emailed the details of the zoom call via Google Classroom.

The English and Maths work for today is in the Home Learning section.  A few of you completed the Maths sheets for today already,  so if that is the case, maybe try doing some Maths topic work on Mathletics or challenge yourself with some of the tests on there.  You could also all start to look at the new spellings for this term - it is 2a of the Spring section further down this page and is the first list.

Please don't hesitate to contact me, parents, if you have any questions or concerns about the work set.  As a school and as parents mostly ourselves, we fully appreciate how difficult this may be for many of you to juggle.  You will probably also be aware that the government has really raised the level of what it expects online learning to be, and it is becoming more towards a normal school day.  As with homework, some of you may feel that there is far too much work set over the coming weeks while others may think it is not enough. We just have to try and provide what we have been asked to, and hopefully it may become easier to manage eventually - but please contact me as a first port of call and I will try to help.

Have a lovely weekend and take care,

Mrs Hainsworth and Miss Jones

Thursday 7th January 2021

Good morning Year 4 and families,

The work for today's learning in on the Home Learning page ( in Maths and English sections).  Maths today is beginning to learn 7x tables facts and is what we would have been doing if in school.

Thank you to all those who sent me photos of work completed yesterday.  Please remember that it is now statutory for your child to be completing some work each day. I will send out Google Classroom codes to those not yet registered so please check emails regularly.

I will also post a link for Oxford Owl - this is a great resource with activities and ideas and has a free e book library so your child can continue  to read, especially if they are not yet at the 'free reader 'level.  You just need to register.

Many thanks and please email with any questions.

Stay safe,

Mrs Hainsworth and Miss Jones

Wednesday 6th January 2021

Dear Year 4,

We hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas break.  Unfortunately this is not the start of term we expected today but we will definitely try to make the best of things and I will support you in every way I  am able to.

Work for today ( and the rest of this week in Maths) is on the Home learning page - under English and Maths.  If you are unable to print the work, don't worry as you can just write or type the answers.  If possible, please take a picture of the work and send it to me via email.  It is now really important that you are trying to complete work each day as the Government now require us to keep records of who is doing work - sorry guys!!

From Monday,  Miss Jones and I will be doing a zoom call with you for about 20/30 minutes.  Out rime slot is 930- 10.  We will take a register, have a quick catch up and I will explain the work for that day.  Parents, please feel free to email me at any time with any questions, concerns etc and I will try my best to help.

Finally - Google Classroom - I set this up in September but there are still lots of you who haven't yet signed up and joined with the code.  Work from Monday will still be put on the website, but the main way we want the children to complete the work is via GC.  This is because I can then mark the work once it is submitted and easily keep a check on who is doing what.  Over today and tomorrow, I will email the code again to you.  Please only sign up with one email and if possible, use a name which will allow me to identify which child it is.

Thanks so much - I know this is a lot of info but it will help in the long run.

Take care and stay safe all of you,

Mrs Hainsworth and Miss Jones

Monday 7th December

Spellings - Friday will be the last spelling test for this half term. It is week 6 on the Autumn List (statutory Y3/Y4 Challenge words).

Maths - This week we are learning to divide by chunking (repeated subtraction). See if your child can show you the method we use.

English - We are nearing the end of our Power of Reading book - 'The Pebble in My Pocket'. This week we will do some persuasive writing on the loss of greenbelt land, do some 'book talk' with opinions on the book; and do some narration.

We are so pleased with the childrens' recent spelling test results. Keep practising tables at home too.

PE this half term will be gymnastics indoors so children should be fine in their PE shorts and T shirt, without any outdoor kit.

As always, please contact me if you have any concerns or need to let me know anything.

Thank you for your continued support.

Week beginning 30th November

This weeks spelling test is week 5 of Term 1B - ough words. Your child should be able to remember the 3 different sounds in the words.

Maths - This week we are mostly working on grid multiplication. Please support your child with learning their tables as some are struggling a lot, which makes the work much harder for them.

English - We continue to work on 'The Pebble in My Pocket'. This week they will write observations about a picture, do some research, and some narrative writing.

The children were looking really tired at the beginning of the week. Well done to them and their effort as it feels like a long half-term and some must be ready for a break!

Week beginning 23rd November

This weeks spelling test is week 4 of Term 1B - cian words (occupations)

Maths - We are beginning a unit on multiplication - this will include doubling and halving and multiplication and division facts.

English - We are learning how to write using fronted adverbials to begin a sentence. We will also do some persuasive writing and write in role, based on our text - 'The Pebble in My Pocket.'

Week beginning 16th November

This weeks spelling test is week 3 of Term 1B (tion words)

Maths - We are working hard on subtraction (expanded decomposition) this week. This is the method used in Friday's homework.

English - We will be doing a story map of the information text so far. We will also respond to an illustration and write in role.

Remember that it will be parents' evening telephone consultations on Thursday this week - you should all have a time. Please contact me if you are unsure.

Tueday 10th November

Good afternoon,

Maths this week - Number line subtraction, adding and subtracting by adjusting, mentally adding and subtracting 1 digit numbers to 3 or 4 digit numbers.

English this week - we have started to read and analyse our new text 'The Pebble in my Pocket' about a history of the earth.

PE this half term will be gymnastics indoors so children should be fine in their PE shorts and T shirt, without any outdoor kit.

As always, please contact me if you have any concerns or need to let me know anything.

Tuesday 6th October

Hello Year 4,

Last day of home learning - hopefully for a while!

Maths today is revision of 3 digit column addition and English is a continuation of adverbials.  The spelling test on Friday will be the week 6 list ( in the Autumn icon).  This is due to some of you having learnt the last 2 weeks at home - we will go back to the others and recap them soon hopefully.

Try to read today and complete your school reading book if you haven't already, so that you can change your book.

Have a good day and we are really looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

PS I have just checked Google Classroom - only 3 of you have submitted work so far.  Remember that it's due by 2pm this afternoon.  Many thanks.

PPS  spelling test this Friday will be the week 5 list which begins with 'medal'.  These are homophones so they are easy spellings but it's important that your child knows the difference in the meaning of the words.  Sorry for the confusion ( I thought we had missed more spelling tests than we actually have!!!)

Monday 5th October

Good morning to you all.  Not long now until we are back together in school, learning together - Wednesday this week for us.

I hope that you managed to have a good weekend, despite not being able to do much.

The work for today is all on - Maths is addition (adding 1's, 10's. 100's, 1000's).  In English, there is a powerpoint on adverbials again and then a video to watch on 'Impala and the Leopard' with some questions to answer.  History today is all about Pharaohs - I wonder which will be your favourite one!!

Good luck with it all.

Take care

Friday 2nd October

Hello Year 4!

Another week nearly over.  I am really looking forward to getting back to school again on Wednesday to see you all again - you have all made such a great start and have made me proud of you all so far!  Well done.

Maths today is Roman numerals ( watch the video first!).  English today is a task on proper nouns - ones that need capital letters.  Keep reading too and try to practise the 4th set of spellings ( in the Autumn folder).

I have just set some work on Google Classroom so hope it gets to you - 29 of you have signed up so that's great!  I've not used it before to set work and only experience of it was to help my daughter who used it during lockdown for her high school work - so we may have some teething problems!

Take care x

Thursday 1st October

Hi, Year 4.

The work for today is on.  Maths is negative numbers - watch the video first please.  English today is a powerpoint on pronouns and then a simple worksheet ( if you want to write the sheet out to practise handwriting too, that would be a good option.  This afternoon would be guided reading and mental maths activities - so I have put  a 60 second read on at the top of the English icon ( try to read the text within a minute and then answer the questions - you can look back at the text ).  Answers are there for parents.  Try to practise times tables or go on Mathletics and do tables practice.

Thanks to everyone who is sending their work - it is great to see.

Also, 25 of you have now signed up to Google Classroom so thank you.  It would be great if we could get a few more joined up.  I will try to put some work on there tomorrow.

Please let the office or myself know if your child is poorly so that we know they aren't competing work as I have to monitor this.

Have a good day and take care.

Wednesday 30th September

Good morning Year 4,

The work for today is all on now, in the Home Learning icon.  Maths today is based on counting in 25's ( important one for future work on decimals!)  The English is based on fronted adverbials which we will continue to work on in class throughout the year.  In simple terms, it is using where, when or how to give more information in a sentence, eg

On a wet, rainy, Wednesday morning, Mrs Hainsworth wrote a message to her lovely class.'

There is also some Science work in the Science folder - those of you that enjoy drawing will enjoy this activity as I want you to draw a detailed, observational drawing of an invertebrate ( could be a spider, insect etc).  You may be able to find one,  or look for a detailed picture of one in a book or on the internet.  Remember to try and send me your work if possible - thank you to everyone who has been doing this, but it's only a few of you.

Have a good day.

Take care all of you x

Tuesday 29th September

Hello Year 4!

The Maths and English work for today is on.  Maths is rounding to the nearest 1000 and includes a useful video.  You should all be great at this!  The English has extracts from Horrid Henry and then some comprehension questions ( parents - this includes answers further down!)

It would have been PE this afternoon so maybe you could do some form of exercise in your garden - or a short online workout ( type in Joe Wicks PE).

Have a good day and take care.

NB I have just set up Google Classroom, which we are having a go at using as it is easier to communicate work as a 2 way process.  You should receive an email shortly from school - or you can click the link below.   This is work in progress but if you can join the classroom, that will be a great start.  Many thanks,

Mrs Hainsworth

Monday 28th September

Good morning again Year 4.  I hope that you managed to enjoy your weekend and the lovely sunshine maybe, in your gardens.

The Maths and English work for today is already on ( Maths includes a really good video so worth a watch!)  Also, you can start to practise the next set of spellings - this is the 4th list in the Autumn folder.  Well done to those of you that managed to do last week's test at home!!

Please keep reading - anything is fine if your school book is finished.  Also, please remember about Mathletics and practising tables -try 8x tables this week if you are confident with 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x and 10x.

PS I have added some History work on ( you can find this under History/Geography in the Home Learning briefcase) as it would have been our History lesson this afternoon.

Please keep or send me (via email) the work you complete so that I can track it.

Most importantly, stay safe and well and take care.

Year 4 staff x

Friday 25th September

Hello Year 4 and parents!

The work for today is on - English is based around Horrid Henry again and includes some really fun activities to do.  The Maths is on partitioning.  If you don't have access to a printer, don't worry - you can just write out the answers in a workbook or on paper.  It would be great if parents could screenshot work and email it to me so I can have a quick look over it and monitor what the children are actually doing.  As most of us are parents ourselves, we do appreciate that this sudden closure may be a very difficult juggling act - but it will really help if your child can do at least some of the work set each day.

I have also put a Spanish link on sent by Mrs Townley - it's quick and free to register apparently and then you have access to some great resources, and the children would have had Spanish today.

We hope that you all have a lovely weekend despite everything.

As always, please email if any problems and I will do my best!

Thursday 24th September

Good morning.  Sadly, we are not able to be in school again at the moment.  I have just put some Maths and English work on for today.  The Maths is place value and the English is based around Horrid Henry books.  You can find these under the particular subject in the Home Learning icon, a little further down this page.  It's really important to try to complete the work if you can - you were all doing so well in class.

Please also remember to use Mathletics ( you should have your log-ins for that).  Also, please try to read daily and practise your spelling list.

Email me please if you have any questions.

Take care  -  Mrs Hainsworth and Miss Jones

Week Beginning:  Monday 21st September

Welcome to another week.  There has been a great effort so far from the children ( and parents!) in adjusting to our Y4 routines with regard to signing reading records, bringing books in on the correct days, PE kits and homework.  Well done to all the class for this.  Please support your child in practising their weekly spellings as the words are definitely quite tricky and need to be learnt carefully ( maybe a few each day).

As always, please contact me if you have any questions or need to let me know anything important about your child.

Week Beginning: Monday 14th September

Miss Jones and I are so pleased with the start the class have made to Year 4.  They have settled into the work routine so well and are remembering generally to bring reading books, homework etc back on the right days.  Thank you so much for your support with this.  Your child has a day ( written in the front of their reading record ) as to which day they need to bring their book back, signed - so that we can check it and they can choose a new one.  If they are a  'free reader',  we won't always expect them to complete a large book within a week but please still get them to bring the book /record in so that we can check it.

Home time is also working quite smoothly now, especially now I recognise faces of parents more easily.

Please remember you can email me if you have any questions or concerns about your child.

Week Beginning:  Monday 7th September

Good morning to you all.  I hope that you have all had a lovely weekend.  We will be doing PE this week on Thursday - so please ensure that you child has their kit in school by then.  Please put names in to avoid items getting lost.

Weekly spellings will be on the Autumn page - we start with the first section but we have also sent home a paper copy too.  Homework is due on a Tuesday but can be brought back on a Monday if completed.  Reading books will be given out soon.  Thanks to everyone who has returned old school books or payment.

Drop off time is now 9:05 and collection is 3:30 - both at the main entrance.

Any questions - please ask us.

Week Beginning :  Monday 31st August

Miss Jones and I are really excited to get to know you all and have a full class of children again.  Although the classroom looks a little different this year and some of our routines have changed, we will do our best to help the children adapt and settle in quickly and easily - and our learning will still be paramount.

The drop off / collection times for Year 4 are 9:05 - 9:15 and 3:20 - 3:30 from the main entrance.  If you have a child in another year group, please email me or contact school to arrange which time you want to choose.

PE day for Year 4 will be just Thursdays initially so please ensure that your child has a full PE kit (with names on).

Breaktimes:  10:15 - 10:30

                      2:15 - 2:30

Lunchtime:   12 - 1.  The children will play first ( hopefully outside) and will then eat their lunch - either in the hall,  or the classroom if they have a packed lunch from home.
